The Styles of Homes We Build

Contemporary

The word “contemporary” means “of the moment,” which makes this style particularly hard to define. Dating back to the 1970s, this style is unique because it borrows elements from many other aesthetics. In it, you can see nods to modern, traditional, art deco and even futuristic design. The other defining point of contemporary design is that it’s constantly evolving. Unlike other styles, which are more or less set in stone, what’s “of the moment” today may change in a few years’ time. Today, the look is defined by curved lines, neutral colors and minimalism, but it may look slightly different in the future.

Traditional

The traditional style offers a combination of comfortable furniture, classic designs, and casual décor. It is a term that includes several design elements, including warm colors and symmetrical lines and the traditional style is one of the most popular styles used to decorate homes. It incorporates design elements from a variety of centuries, which allows homeowners to feel comfortable and elegant at the same time. The traditional style features warm, rich colors that are very inviting. The furniture is plush and soft, and many of the pieces are sold as sets. The traditional style may have curves and designs, but it is not extremely ornate or ostentatious. Glazed doors or stained glass add character to the room, and wood floor or checkered tiles can make the space even more personal.

Modern

“Modern” style describes a design style that breaks with those pre-Industrial Revolution traditional styles. Modern spaces embrace simplicity in adornment. Modern interiors are clean and fresh, perhaps with a hint or two of color added. Modern architecture incorporates glass windows where walls would traditionally have existed. A key component of modern design is its minimalism – using the least to achieve the most. The result is a clutter-free space where attention is placed in the details, whether they are architectural, artistic, or furniture-related.

Transitional

Transitional style is a marriage of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics equating to a classic, timeless design. Furniture lines are simple yet sophisticated, featuring either straight lines or rounded profiles. Transitional design is a modern mix of classic and contemporary. You can think of it as simply a new take on an old classic, or a younger, more punchy version of traditional design. Transitional design marries curved furnishings with straight-lined, lacquered finishes, resulting in a room that is equally masculine and feminine in nature. It is not a scattered, eclectic mess; rather, it is only lightly adorned with accessories, a clean room with added texture and a neutral color palette.
